Registration Guide – Tertiary Teams
Eligibility requirements
To register as a contestant for a tertiary team, you must be a student at a tertiary institution in New Zealand, with at least a 50% timetable during the semester of the contest.
There are three categories for tertiary teams.
- Junior. Normally students in their first year of programming, who have not taken any second year papers. They would not be particularly fluent yet.
- Intermediate. Normally students in their second year of programming, who have not taken any third year papers. They would be reasonably fluent in 1 language.
- Open. Tertiary students who do not meet the requirements of the other categories.
A team must compete in the category of the highest rated student, eg a team with two first year students and one second year student must compete as Intermediate.
Registration
To register, a team requires a team manager who is able to confirm that the contestants meet the eligibility requirements, and will undertake to pay the entry fee for the team (typically $75, but the amount is set per site – confirm with your site coordinator). Note that there is no fee if the contest is on-line. A staff member would normally fill this role, though a post graduate student could be considered.
Team and contestant registration will be carried out on the contest day before the practice session.
Teams
A team may contain up to 3 contestants. If space is limited at a site, teams with 3 contestants will be given priority over smaller teams.
Team managers may reserve space for their teams – usually through TeamUp – as described on the Registration page; check with your site coordinator.
